24,258 pounds of food donated by Federal employees during the summer campaign.
The National Nuclear Security Administration’s Y-12 Site Office (YSO) has donated over 24,000 pounds of food to the Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee as part of the U.S. Government-wide “Feds Feed Families” campaign.
The Feds Feed Families campaign is intended to provide food during the summer months that are often a time of severe shortages for food banks. This marks the second year that YSO employees participated in the campaign, with significantly increased donations this year.
“I am very proud of the generosity of YSO employees in this campaign,” said Ted Sherry, Y-12 Site Office Manager. The food donated will provide many people in our community with much needed food.”
Also, Y-12’s management and operating contractor, B&W Y-12, donated 30,000 pounds to Second Harvest in a separate campaign, bringing the total Y-12 contribution to over 54,000 pounds. Y-12 has long been a supporter of this local charity and also contributed donations last spring when flooding damaged the Second Harvest warehouse in Knoxville.
The mission of the NNSA’s Y-12 Site Office is to ensure the safe, secure and cost-effective operation of the Y-12 National Security Complex. Y-12 is a key facility in the U.S. Nuclear Weapons Complex and is responsible for ensuring the safety and effectiveness of the nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile. YSO employees perform program oversight, contract and administrative management and technical evaluation and assessment to meet this mission.
