WikiLeaks, Twitter and Facebook Nominees in 2011 Nobel Race

The prize committee received the highest number of nominations ever submitted, surpassing the 2010 record.

Nobel-Prize-MedalThe Norwegian Nobel Committee has announced that 241 candidates are being considered for the 2011 Nobel Peace prize, including notables such as WikiLeaks, Internet, Facebook and Twitter. The social media sites are presumed frontrunners due to their credit in aiding the pro-democracy movements currently underway in the Middle East and North Africa. Other reported nominees are: Afghan rights advocate Sima Samar, the European Union, former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, Cuban dissident Oswaldo Paya Sardinas, and Russian rights group Memorial.
