NNSA Releases FY 2022 Stockpile Stewardship and Management Plan Report

Today, the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) is releasing the Fiscal Year 2022 Stockpile Stewardship and Management Plan (FY 2022 SSMP). The FY 2022 SSMP focuses on NNSA’s efforts to deliver products and infrastructure that meet the nation’s requirements, and to continue to advance and apply our science and engineering capabilities in maintaining the stockpile without the need for explosive nuclear testing.

The SSMP fulfills statutory requirements under 50 USC 2523, as well as other related congressional reporting requirements, such as annual life extension program reporting required under P.L. 115-31.  While the results of the upcoming Nuclear Posture Review (NPR) will inform future SSMP reports to Congress, the FY 2022 SSMP was finalized prior to completion of the ongoing NPR.
