Oak Ridge Community Leaders Maintain Opposition to NNSA’s Push for Sole-Source Contract to Purify Highly Enriched Uranium

Oak Ridge Mayor Warren Gooch announced that the City remains opposed to a plan by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) to contract with a third-party vendor to perform uranium purification offsite at a location 125 miles away from the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge. Mayor Gooch expressed strong concern about NNSA’s push to move the work outside the Oak Ridge region.

BWXT to Lead $106.6 Million Microreactor Design Project

BWX Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: BWXT) announced today that it has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to lead a $106.6 million microreactor development project. The DOE is contributing $85.3 million to the cost-share project over seven years, with BWXT funding the remaining amount.

UCOR Earns 98% of Fee for Second Half of Fiscal 2020

EM recently awarded Oak Ridge cleanup contractor UCOR $28 million for its performance from April 2020 through September 2020, amounting to 98% of the available fee for the evaluation period. The Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management (OREM) issued its fee determination scorecard for UCOR for the second six-month period of fiscal 2020 after completing its evaluation of the contractor.
