Babcock & Wilcox today announced that William A. (Bill) Fox III has been appointed senior vice president and chief operating officer of its majority-owned subsidiary, Generation mPower LLC (GmP).

GmP is a joint company formed by B&W and Bechtel to design, license and build the next generation of nuclear power plants based on the small, modular reactor tecnology, including a Clinch River project not far from Oak Ridge National Lab. GmP is working with TVA on the project.

According to B&W’s presss statement, “Fox will have overall GmP responsibility for the operational activities supporting the mPower SMR development program, and the subsequent application for U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission design certification, and all mPower Plant deployment projects, including the lead Clinch River mPower Plant project with the Tennessee Valley Authority in Roane County, Tennessee.”

The small reactor is designed for 180 megawatts of carbon-free electricity, B&W said.
