North Carolina Rep. Heath Shuler’s camp isn’t exactly pushing back on reports he’s considering taking the athletic director post at University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
WVLZ is reporting that Shuler, a Blue Dog Democrat who played quarterback for the Volunteers in the early 1990s, is in talks with top brass at the school about taking the position — but that no offer has been made.
In a statement, Shuler senior adviser Andrew Whelan said: “Congressman Shuler is focused on the very serious challenges facing our nation, including job creation and balancing our budget. He is currently and actively preparing for his next reelection campaign in 2012 and looks forward to continuing to fight for the working families of Western North Carolina in the years ahead.”
