Senator Alexander “hopeful that this change in the Department of Energy’s organization will improve the efficiency of work being done in our state.”
After the Department of Energy’s reorganization announcement – which transitions the Office of Environmental Management, the Office of Legacy Management, and the Office of the Chief of Nuclear Safety to the direction of Under Secretary for Nuclear Security, Tom D’Agostino (who heads the National Nuclear Security Administration) – Senator Lamar Alexander released the following statement:
“This management decision is important to thousands of families in East Tennessee. The federal government has a responsibility by law to clean up the environmental problems caused by the Cold War and I am hopeful that this change in the Department of Energy’s organization will improve the efficiency of work being done in our state without overburdening NNSA. With fewer federal dollars to spend, it is important to use our scarce money on the right priorities, and I will continue working with the Department of Energy to make sure it is doing that in Tennessee.”
