Safer workplaces result in safer communities. Why? Because workers who learn safe practices on the job take them home and into their communities. Safety Fest TN is an annual event that helps build safer communities by offering free safety classes in Oak Ridge and Knoxville to anyone who registers. This year’s event is scheduled for September 10-14.
For the seventh consecutive year, Safety Fest TN, partnering with numerous local, national and international businesses and organizations will host the weeklong event free of charge. To enhance availability, some classes will also be held in the evening, in Spanish, and at multiple locations. This approach is making an impact in the community, attracting more than 850 participants last year.
“This year’s event is popping at the seams with classes, live demonstrations, seminars, a Safety Expo, and a community brunch that celebrates safety,” said Dale Stewart, co-chair of Safety Fest TN’s planning committee that organizes the event. “We’ve got something for everyone,” he said.
One of the main attractions during the week of events is the community safety forum. This year’s keynote address on Tuesday, September 11, will be presented by internationally recognized speaker, Chip Eichelberger. Eichelberger promises an engaging, high-energy motivational presentation. He has been ranked a “Top 5 Speaker” and has earned the prestigious Certified Speaking Professional designation.
Safety Fest TN is offering more than 80 free safety classes, ranging from the OSHA series, to chainsaw safety and hearing conservation. The event is also very popular for people interested in learning more about CPR or recertifying their CPR training. An annual favorite, World Class Safety, returns, featuring representatives from commercial manufacturers who share information about their safety programs.
“This seminar is ideal for learning new ideas from safety practices implemented at the facilities of some of the region’s most successful companies,” said J.J. Rochelle, seminar coordinator.
Safety Fest TN also features Safety Expo, a two-day trade show with booth space for almost 50 companies and organizations to showcase their expertise and products.
“We appreciate our sponsors for supporting Safety Fest TN once again,” said Stewart. “Their donations make it possible for Safety Fest TN to remain free of charge to anyone who registers.”
A complete schedule is posted at www.safetyfesttn.org. Online registration starts July 20 and continues until September 5. To ensure getting into preferred class, attendees should register early.
