House Republicans have targeted loan guarantees in recent months as an example of the Obama administration’s failed energy policies.
Two key House Democrats defended the Obama administration against criticism that the Department of Energy is awarding loan guarantees based on politics rather than merit.
Reps. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), the ranking Democrat on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and Diana DeGette (D-Colo.), the ranking Democrat on the panel’s Oversight and Investigations subcommittee, insisted there is no evidence to indicate DoE loan guarantees are being distributed unfairly.
“We have not received any information or documents that suggest any impropriety, wrongdoing, or favoritism in the award of the Solyndra loan guarantee or any other DOE loan guarantee,” the lawmakers said in a letter.
