Several organizations announced yesterday a joint effort to develop materials and reinforcements for advanced composites using large-scale additive manufacturing.
Under the leadership of IACMI – The Composites Institute and the U.S. Department of Energy, the project also draws on the expertise of Oak Ridge National Laboratory and its Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) in partnership with the co-creation and micro-manufacturing expertise of Local Motors.
The work will be performed at MDF which is diagonally across Pellissippi Parkway from Local Motors news plant. The outcomes from the project are expected to enable creation of multiple U.S. facilities that can produce cars with a substantial advanced composite make-up.
