Earlier this year, the final design package for the Y-12 Emergency Operations Center line-item project was completed. This project replaces an outdated Manhattan Project-era facility by constructing a new Plant Shift Superintendent’s (PSS) facility, a new Technical Support Center (TSC), and a new plant Fire Department Alarm Room, replacing the current PSS and TSC in Building 9706-2. This new facility will have the capabilities to be the Emergency Command Center for an operational emergency. The EOC project team completed the design ahead of schedule and under budget.
Completion of the design marks a major milestone in project progress. Using this completed design package, the project team can complete the balance of the project documentation needed to receive authorization for construction from National Nuclear Security Administration.
