In his fiscal year 2012 budget proposal, Obama increased the program’s budget to $550 million.
Speaking at a Department of Energy event, Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) said there was significant support to invest in the high-risk, high-reward technologies of the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). Yet, Murkowski cast doubt that lawmakers would fund the program at the levels requested by President Obama.
Murkowski offered what she described as a “pragmatic assessment” of how the program would be funded in fiscal year 2012, saying “that every program must live within its means.”
