Oak Ridge Land Bank: Toast The Town – Wilson Street Event
August 6 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Join the Oak Ridge Land Bank on Wilson Street for a big announcement about the next phase in bringing the dream of a Downtown Oak Ridge to reality!
Oak Ridge was born during the Manhattan Project, without a centralized, urban-density, mixed-use Downtown. Over the decades, multiple city plans have called for creating such a place – where Oak Ridgers can live, work, and play! The Wilson Street corridor, bordering Main Street shopping and just a block off the Turnpike, provides a great opportunity to finally have a distinctive, uniquely Oak Ridge place for us to gather. The existence of a more walkable, urban environment will attract new and different businesses to Oak Ridge — helping to fortify our tax base.
Join them on August 6, from 5 to 7 p.m., on Wilson Street near Rice Road, to ‘raise a glass’ to our future downtown and hear a big announcement about the next phase. The Oak Ridge Land Bank (an independent 501(c)(3) organization real estate corporation created by the City of Oak Ridge) has accumulated a highly developable vacant site and will offer it to developers to launch our Downtown. The Land Bank will release a ‘Request For Proposals’ (RFP) that day, soliciting construction of shops, restaurants, rooftop bars, condos, apartments, hotels and other active, fun places to enhance our community and strengthen our tax base.
At this Toast the Town format event, you’ll be invited to view plans and renderings of what Downtown Oak Ridge could be like, hear details of the RFP, share your dreams for a new Downtown – and raise a craft beer to toast to this exciting future! Come out on the 6th, bring a friend, and imagine what’s next.
