New Life for Cancer Research Celebration
November 22 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
The U.S. Department of Energy, Isotek Systems, Atkins, ad TerraPower invite you to attend the “New Life for Cancer Research” celebration in Oak Ridge, Tennessee on Friday, November 22, 2019.
This event celebrates a partnership between the medical research community, the federal government, and private companies that will advance cancer treatment research through using the medical application of radioisotope technologies.
Isotek Systems, LLC, under Atkins Nuclear Secured Holdings, is the U.S Department of Energy’s (DOE) Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management contractor tasked with disposing of certain legacy nuclear materials currently stored at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). A portion of this material contains extremely rare and unique isotopes that may help in the treatment of cancer and other illnesses.
Employing an innovative approach, Isotek Systems, LLC has partnered with TerraPower to begin extracting thorium from this stored material. TerraPower, based in Bellevue, Washington, will use the extracted thorium to develop the medical isotopes needed for next-generation cancer research as part of its nuclear innovation mission.
This partnership will not only produce vital material for future cancer treatment research but also expedite the removal of legacy nuclear material at ORNL at a cost reduction to the American taxpayer.
They would be honored to have you join us to commemorate this historic achievement. Confirmed guest speakers include U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn, U.S. Representative Chuck Fleischmann, DOE Deputy Under Secretary for Science TL Cubbage, Sandy Taylor, President SNC-Lavalin Nuclear, Chris Levesque, President & CEO TerraPower, and Jim Bolon, President of Isotek.
Refreshments will be available.
