Devyn McDonald is a director in APCO Worldwide’s public affairs practice, based in the firm’s Raleigh, NC office. Her work at APCO includes national and state-focused public affairs and advocacy campaigns, national and global issues management and crisis response, and global litigation communications projects.
Ms. McDonald has expertise in various sectors including energy, climate, environmental policy, transportation, tax policy, redistricting reform and economic development. She has experience building public affairs teams and executing integrated campaigns to support reputational, legislative and regulatory outcomes – including stakeholder engagement, brand communications, digital advocacy and government affairs support.
Ms. McDonald also has experience working with companies in planning for and responding to public crises, high-profile litigation, cybersecurity threats and major issue campaigns. She has helped clients manage reputational threats including infrastructure development, protests and consumer pushback, regulatory challenges, and data breaches.
Prior to joining APCO, Ms. McDonald worked on a U.S. Senate campaign as a fundraising and communications assistant. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in public relations and political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Senior Associate Director
Dan Smith is a senior associate director at APCO Worldwide and is based in Washington, D.C., specializing in digital, energy, and public affairs.
Mr. Smith brings his unique digital-first, public affairs mindset to assist clients with coalition management, grassroots and grasstops mobilization, and digital campaigns with a focus on advocacy, advisory, and brand awareness. He advises a diverse clientele across multiple industries and arenas, including energy and resource sustainability, global consumer packaged goods, corporate social responsibility, healthcare, and telecommunications.
Mr. Smith’s leadership of major digital campaigns in the U.S. and internationally for public- and private-sector organizations has led to notable enhancements in brand awareness, issue advocacy, public perception, community support, and organization reputation for his clients. A holistic perspective informed by his experience in developing integrated strategies helps him successfully leverage earned and paid media to move the needle on the issues most critical to his clients.
Mr. Smith received PR News’ “Rising Stars 30 & Under Award” in 2017 in recognition of his consistent ability to deliver for his clients.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in English from Furman University, and is currently pursuing his Master of Arts in Mass Communications through the University of Florida’s College of Journalism & Communications online program.
