ETEC Meeting: Ted Stryk, Roane State Community College

The speaker at the ETEC meeting on Friday, May 5th will be Ted Stryk, Associate Professor of English/Philosophy Humanities at Roane State Community College.   Mr. Stryk is from Bristol, Virginia, and is an alumnus of Carson Newman University, the University of Tennessee Knoxville, and Northern Arizona University. He teaches a variety of philosophy and English classes, as well as serving as course developer and content mentor for the TN eCampus general education philosophy classes. Planetary science and image processing have been a life long interest of Stryk’s. He has been involved with NASA’s New Horizons mission to Pluto since 2009, including being part of the encounter team. He is married with two children and lives in Powell, Tennessee.

For years, Roane State Community College associate professor Ted Stryk has peered into powerful telescopes to explore the mysteries of outer space.

It’s his hobby and his passion.

On January 19, the associate professor of philosophy and English was honored for his role in a NASA investigation of the dwarf planet Pluto and its moons.

Stryk and about 200 other researchers received certificates of achievement for helping learn more about the solar system’s most distant planet, some 3 billion miles away. The ceremony was held at the applied physics lab at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. [Read more…]
