ETEC Meeting: “State of the City”, Oak Ridge Mayor Warren Gooch

Oak Ridge Mayor Warren Gooch was elected the City’s 10th Mayor in November 2014. During his 21 months as Mayor, he has concentrated on economic development and housing issues, including the recent groundbreaking for Main Street Oak Ridge, which will redevelop the center of the City; the Manhattan Project National Historical Park; the redevelopment of Jackson Square; the addition of an 8th lane to the Melton Lake rowing venue; and grants from TV A and the Tennessee Housing Development Authority for neighborhood revitalization.
He is a past chair of the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce and was instrumental in organizing support for the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and approval of the Oak Ridge campus of Roane State Community College.
The Mayor is a partner in the law firm of Kramer Rayson, LLP, where he has practiced for 39 years. He is recognized as one of the leading health care attorneys in Tennessee and established the firm’s health law practice. He represents hospital systems and other health care providers in Middle and East Tennessee. He has been selected for recognition by Best Lawyers in America ® and other publications in the practice areas of health care law, administrative/regulatory law and governmental relations since 2007. During the first 10 years of his legal practice, he represented national companies in products liability, toxic exposure, and mass casualty fire litigation.
Mayor Gooch earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and he served as a Captain in the United State Air Force Reserves. He and his wife, Judy, an interior designer, have lived in Oak Ridge for 23 years. They have two grown sons, Ryan and Matt, who are graduates of Oak Ridge High School and Furman University. Gooch and his sons are Eagle Scouts. The couple are active members of First Baptist Church of Clinton and are proud grandparents of Owen, Hayes, Haleigh Rae and Jackson.
Gooch serves on the Board of Directors of the Free Medical Clinic of Oak Ridge and is a member of the Great Smoky Mountains Park Commission. He has previously served on the boards of the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce, Knoxville Chamber, Oak Ridge Boys and Girls Club, Oak Ridge Public Schools Foundation, East Tennessee Economic Council, and he coached youth baseball for several years.
He regularly refers to our City as, “OAK RIDGE, WHERE GREAT THINGS HAPPEN EVERYDAY.”
