ETEC Meeting: Steve Dahlgren, UCOR

Steve Dahlgren is UCOR’s Vice President of Deactivation & Decommissioning (D&D). He is in charge of decommissioning work at the East Tennessee Technology Park (ETTP).
Steve has managed and led projects for over 23 years, 14 of which have been spent in D&D for governmental and commercial sites.
Prior to ETTP, he served as Vice President of D&D in the URS Global Management & Operations Services Group, where he was responsible for all corporate D&D projects. He ensured safety and programmatic consistency for D&D across DOE sites. He directed, tracked, and integrated all D&D and waste management activities, including the Oak Ridge Hot Cells and Miscellaneous Facilities projects.
Steve has also served as Vice President for CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation Company, leading the PFP and Balance of Site Decommissioning project at the Hanford site in Washington. He managed a team of 800 with a $177 million annual budget. He also directed the safe, compliant D&D and handling, packaging, storage, and shipment of special nuclear materials.
He also served as President and CEO of CH2 Savannah River Company and Project Manager of Site D&D at the Savannah River Site near Aiken, SC. He led a team of 400 personnel and subcontractors working on a $200M annual budget. In less than a year, Steve’s team shipped 3,500 cubic feet of transuranic waste to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant while completing D&D of 10 ancillary facilities.
Steve also served as CH2SRC’s Executive Vice President, when he and his team of 450 personnel completed SRS’s first area closure, completing T Area with 89 percent cost and 80 percent schedule reductions while successfully performing D&D of 28 buildings and maintaining a TRC rate of less than 1.
Steve has also held leadership positions at Rocky Flats and Maine Yankee. While at Rocky Flats, he served as Deputy Project Manager for Kaiser Hill, managing 500 personnel and a $100 million annual budget. At Maine Yankee, he served as Decommissioning Manager, scheduling and budgeting the project while working on continuous improvement in project safety
