ETEC Meeting: Mark McClure, Centrus Energy Corp.

Mr. McClure is the Facility Operations Manager of the Technology and Manufacturing Center. In this capacity, he oversees maintenance and operation of the 440,000 square foot Technology and Manufacturing Center with over $100M in manufacturing equipment. His programmatic responsibilities include Program Management for the Centrus – Xenergy partnership, developing the next generation TRISO based nuclear fuel manufacturing facility. He also serves as the site deputy to the Senior Vice President, Field Operations. Mr. McClure has been working for Centrus Energy on the American Centrifuge Project since November 2014.
Before joining the American Centrifuge Program, Mr. McClure held numerous management roles with Centrus Energy (then USEC) over a 20-year period at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant spanning Maintenance, Work Control, Quality, Procurement, Materials, and Transportation including senior management positions in Procurement, Maintenance, and Work Control. During his time in Paducah he was project manager for the development of the site corrective actions program, and the integrated work control program. He also served as a principle in the site process improvement team, resulting in numerous 30-55year production records that followed.
Prior to his time with USEC and Centrus, Mr. McClure served in the Navy for 11 years as a Nuclear Submarine Officer culminating in a tour as Chief Engineering Officer of the nuclear submarine USS Houston, SSN-713. He earlier served as Main Propulsion Assistant on USS MG Vallejo, SSBN658. He was one of the first of a line of officers trained and serving in both nuclear propulsion systems and strategic nuclear weapons operations qualifying as a department head in each. He also served as a Nuclear Weapons Targeting Planner as part of the Joint Strategic Planning Staff in Omaha NE.
Mr. McClure holds a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics from Murray State University where he also served as Student Body President, Member of the University Board of Regents, and was Awarded Most Outstanding Graduate in Physics. He is also a Certified Project Management Professional and a graduate of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion School and qualified as a Chief Engineer for Nuclear Propulsion with NAVSEA 08.
