Daryush ILA, a Graduate of U. Mass Lowell and M. I. T. with M.S. in nuclear Physics and Ph. D. in condensed Matter Physics, is an innovator, an inventor, an entrepreneur, and an expert in surface and interface processing, expert in ion-matter interactions and nanoscale materials/device fabrication/prototyping. ILA has authored or coauthored nearly 300 publications, over eleven books, two book chapters, over 55 invited & plenary talks and five patent disclosures. ILA’s patents are on highly efficient thermoelectric materials and on production of nanopores for filtration, and for DNA sequencing in addition to few more patent applications filed recently. At FSU, ILA built the University’s research infrastructure, establishing the research office, and establishing world class materials research capabilities. Daryush ILA built partnerships winning nearly $140M grants and contracts as P. I., P. M. and as Co. I., where nearly $100M were from DOD and NASA. Daryush ILA built a research program that led to establishment of a creation of a Research Institute, a 100% Daryush ILA, also, founded the Center for Irradiation of Materials (CIM) at Huntsville, AL, and serves as its director, a 100% independently supported research center unique in North America. CIM, under supervision of Daryush ILA, was awarded between $30M to $45M grants from NASA, NSF, DOE and DOD. Daryush ILA as a faculty member supervised or co-supervised over 35 MS Theses and PhD Dissertations and provided summer trainee for few hundred students.

ILA is, presently, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research, Chief Research Officer (CRO), the Tech-transfer Officer (TTO), and Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) at Fayetteville State University, a constituent of University of North Carolina, Fayetteville, NC, and serves as a Member of North Carolina Board of Science, Technology & Innovation (BSTI).
