As part of Innov865 Week, ETEC's Friday meeting will be about attracting industries to East Tennessee and will feature a panel discussion with:

- Thomas Zacharia, Director, Oak Ridge National Laboratory

We expect most or all of the panelists to attend in person, but ETEC members and their guests are welcome to attend either in-person or online.

Energy Secretary Granholm Visits ORNL in Virtual Tour of World-Class Science Facilities

At 14 stops, researchers highlighted the lab’s world-class facilities and projects that enable leading-edge scientific discoveries and innovations that address some of the nation’s most compelling scientific and technical challenges.

Former UCOR Intern’s Passion for Environmental Justice Now Her Full-Time Focus
Fresh from a unique internship this past summer, Sierra Generette began a new full-time position serving as UCOR’s lead on environmental justice matters. Environmental justice refers to the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of everyone, regardless of race, color, national origin, or income, when it comes to development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws and regulations.

The ATLC has always represented members who are most highly skilled in their craft. It is not uncommon to talk to people who are third-generation union members following the footsteps of their parents and grandparents. Atomic Trades and Labor Council's legacy continues to be passed on to the next generation and then the next.

ORNL Upgrades Data Center, Home to World's First Exascale Supercomputer
DOE has begun installing what will become the world's most powerful supercomputer. ORNL has finished upgrading the data center that will house Frontier, set to be the world's first exascale system (capable of at least 10¹⁸ floating-point operations per second).

Snail Darter Matures from Notoriety to Success Story
In late summer, a proposal was released to remove the tiny snail darter from the endangered species list of the Endangered Species Act. In 1975, TVA's unfinished Tellico Dam threatened the snail-eating species. TVA has since improved the quality of the water and added fish habitats. If delisted, it will join 52 other species that have been removed from the ESA due to recovery efforts since 1973.

Pro2Serve Announces Executive Management Changes
Professional Project Services, Inc. announced changes to its Executive Management. Dr. Barry Goss, Founder, CEO, and Chairman of the Board of Pro2Serve, and long-time friend and Board member of ETEC, has announced his retirement effective October 4. After which he will assume the role of non-executive Chairman of the Board.

The drying energy sector in North America is responsible for 15% of the country’s energy consumption. Ultrasonic Technology Solutions has developed industrial and commercial ultrasonic dryers that are two times faster and three to five times more efficient than the conventional heat-based drying system. Their products can cut millions of dollars from operational expenses, and significantly increase the throughput of various manufacturing production lines.
