Congress needs to take swift action to build a domestic supply of high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) to fuel advanced reactors, the American Nuclear Society declares in a recent letter to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

Held at UT Knoxville, ORNL's MDF, and PSTCC, the recent series of camps taught participants computer numerically controlled (CNC) machining. Focused on training the current and future workforces who will be using this emerging method the camps were offered through America's Cutting Edge.

LaunchTN Announced Recipients of SBIR/STTR Matching Grants
Launch Tennessee has announced the recipients of this year’s “Tennessee Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) Matching Fund Grant Program,” with companies in East Tennessee taking a little more than half of the allotted $7 million.

City of Oak Ridge Gets Closer to Building New Airport
The Oak Ridge City Council voted to approve $60,000 in legal fees to take land from a railroad for the proposed airport. DOE owns the land and plans to turn that over to the city if the airport project is approved. The proposed airport would support general aviation aircraft, used by business leaders to fly around the country in an effort to connect local innovation with the rest of the country.

Mary Brown, Wife of Tom Rogers, Passes Away
Tom Rogers, ETEC past chairman, current Board member, and longtime friend, lost his wife, Mary Kathleen Brown last week. Tom is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the University of Tennessee Research Park at Cherokee Farm. Mary passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at her home in Knoxville on September 15. No services are planned at this time but will be scheduled at a later date. Her obituary can be found at the link below. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tom and their family.
