UT, TVA Sign Agreement on Advance Nuclear Reactor Dev.

The University of Tennessee and the Tennessee Valley Authority signed a memorandum of understanding to evaluate the development of a new generation of cost-effective, advanced nuclear reactors, such as small modular reactors, at TVA’s 935-acre Clinch River Nuclear Site in Roane County. TVA has not made a decision to build and would first need approval from the NRC for a specific design.

USNIC Releases Results of 2020 Advanced Nuclear Industry Survey

The U.S. Nuclear Industry Council released the results of its 2020 Advanced Nuclear Survey of Developers. Seventeen Advanced Nuclear companies completed the entire survey in March 2020. Key policy issues facing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission were identified, as well as the characteristics of Advanced Reactors and the concerns of Advanced Nuclear Developers.

Centrus Centrifuges Among First Projected DOE Work Delays Due to COVID-19

Nearly a month after COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic, production of Centrus Energy Corp.’s new all-domestic enrichment cascade in Ohio is one of the first projects for the Department of Energy fearing delays from the viral outbreak. The company is building a 16-machine cascade based on its AC100M technology at the Energy Department’s Portsmouth Site near Piketon, Ohio.

Imaging leaders warn of possible Mo-99 supply disruptions due to COVID-19

Imaging leaders in the United States are warning of possible shortages of a crucial isotope needed for diagnostic imaging because of the coronavirus crisis. In an April 1 alert to members, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology said its monitoring supply shortages of Mo-99 “more closely than ever” during the pandemic. The vigilance comes following an announcement from Nuclear Medicine Europe that halted flights in and out of South Africa recently interrupted a bulk shipment of the material.

anticipated service disruptions through Q2 2020. UniTech attributes its ability to continue without service disruptions to its diverse supplier network. The company is maintaining constant communication with finished goods and raw materials suppliers to ensure an uninterrupted supply of PPE.
