Volkswagen, UT, and ORNL Announce Partnership, Innovation Hub

This group announced a partnership to create Volkswagen’s first innovation hub in North America at the UT Research Park at Cherokee Farm. The partnership is leveraging the expertise of ORNL scientists and several faculty members within the Tickle College of Engineering at UT to develop lighter vehicle components made from composite materials and to electrify vehicles—two areas where UT is at the forefront of research and expertise.

NRC Moves Review of NuScale’s Smaller Nuclear Reactor to Final Phases

NuScale Power has entered the second half of its quest to get federal approval for its small modular nuclear reactor expected to be in service sometime in the next decade. NuScale announced that the NRC has completed the 4th phase of review for the SMR’s design certification application. The review now goes in phases 5 and 6, which could be complete by late 2020 and then entered into rulemaking, according to the NRC website.

UT Distinguished Professor Jack Dongarra has been selected by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Computer Society as its 2020 Computer Pioneer Award winner.
