ORNL to Develop Clean Water Solutions in DOE Innovation Hub
The National Alliance for Water Innovation, a partnership of the DOE’s ORNL, other national labs, university, and private sector partners, has been awarded a five-year, $100 million Energy-Water Desalination Hub by DOE to address water security issues in the U.S. Reliable access to clean water is a pressing global challenge, and the new hub will focus on early-stage research and development for energy-efficient, low-cost solutions for desalination and the treatment of non-traditional sources such as industrial wastewater.

Booz Allen Hamilton Inc. to Expand TN Operations
TN Gov. Bill Lee, Dept. of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe and Booz Allen Hamilton Inc. officials announced the company's plans to locate new operations in Knox County. The technology consulting firm expects to invest more than $3.6 million and create 52 new jobs over the next five years. Booz Allen is investing in the expansion of its engineering business by locating a research and development facility in Knoxville. Activities at this facility will include engineering, prototyping and testing for a variety of technical systems.

UTRF Cosponsors Knoxville Scipreneur Challenge
The University of Tennessee Research Foundation is involved in an exciting new endeavor to support entrepreneurship in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), along with the commercialization of intellectual property in the Knoxville region. In partnership with ORNL and the Knoxville Entrepreneur Center, UTRF is cosponsoring the Knoxville Scipreneur Challenge, a nine-week training and outreach competition to promote STEM entrepreneurship in the area.

AMSE Receives First-Ever Overcomer Award
The Association of Science and Technology Centers has recognized The American Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge for successfully surmounting a significant and specific challenge. AMSE has been awarded with the first-ever Overcomer Award. Now in their 15th year, the Roy L. Shafer Leading Edge Awards are presented annually by ASTC to recognize extraordinary accomplishments in business practice, visitor experience, and leadership in science centers and museums around the globe.

Demolitions Continue to Transform Landscape at ETTP
Oak Ridge crews recently tore down another facility at the East Tennessee Technology Park, bringing EM closer to completing cleanup at the site. Workers have finished the demolition and debris removal of the 30,817-square-foot K-1423 Toll Enrichment Facility. The building was originally used to transfer liquefied uranium hexafluoride to cylinders for the plant’s uranium enrichment process.
