DOE’s NNSA recently published its annual report, the Prevent, Counter, and Respond—NNSA’s Plan to Reduce Global Nuclear Threats (NPCR) (FY 2022–FY 2026). This annual report outlines DOE/NNSA’s strategic framework to prevent, counter, and respond to global nuclear threats, and describes program activities to meet some of today’s most pressing national security challenges.
DOE/NNSA’s priorities align to directly address proliferation trends, including: supporting existing and new arms control agreements; addressing nuclear noncompliance; protecting U.S. technology from illicit acquisition; harnessing civil nuclear technology to achieve clean energy transformation while maintaining the highest nonproliferation standards; and contributing to nuclear forensics capabilities.
The NPCR addresses the requirements for a Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation Management Plan in 50 U.S.C. § 2575.
