Additive Manufacturing Moves Forward at ORNL

Arcam AB and Oak Ridge National Laboratory to offer EBM additive manufacturing to U.S. industry.

oakridgeSwedish additive manufacturing specialist Arcam AB and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), Tennessee, USA, have signed a co-operation agreement under which the parties will facilitate the introduction of Arcam’s Electron Beam Melting (EBM®) technology to US industry through a new Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF).

ORNL purchased its first Arcam EBM system in 2009. Since that time ORNL and Arcam have worked together to create opportunities for US industry to adopt Arcam’s EBM technology to meet emerging advanced manufacturing challenges.

Under a new ‘Cooperative Research and Development Agreement’ Arcam and ORNL will deepen their collaboration, with Arcam locating an application development centre at ORNL to further support US industry.
