President Trump Signs Bill, Gives Troops Biggest Pay Raise in 10 Years

U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander's stated after President Trump signed into law the Fiscal Year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act, “This defense bill authorizes the biggest pay raise for troops at Fort Campbell, Arnold Air Force Base in Tullahoma and Naval Support Activity Mid-South in Millington in 10 years, and will strengthen our national security by supporting important programs at the Y-12 National Security Complex to help modernize and maintain our nuclear weapons arsenal.

ORNL’s Second Target Station will Offer Hard Science on Soft Matter

Soft matter materials like polymers, proteins, and lipids are critical components of everything from pharmaceuticals to batteries. Learning more about these materials will dramatically increase the quality of products and technologies consumers around the world rely on every day. To accelerate this new era of innovation, the Second Target Station at DOE’s ORNL Spallation Neutron Source will allow researchers to probe soft matter samples with neutrons of very different energies at the exact same time.

Oak Ridge Begins Deactivating Last ETTP Facility Set for Demolition

EM crews are deactivating Building K-1600, a former test and demonstration facility for uranium enrichment centrifuges at ETTP. The project is key to achieving Vision 2020 which will mark the first time in the world that an enrichment complex has been successfully cleaned and removed.The 40,000-square-foot facility was transferred to UCOR in Sept. 2019 to complete deactivation and demolition. Centrus Energy Corp. had leased Building K-1600 since 2002 and finished decommissioning it earlier this year.
