Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to make this Friday’s ETEC meeting Zoom only. ETEC staff members have all tested positive for COVID-19, and we feel it is in everyone’s best interest to meet virtually this week. The health of our members is very important to us.

We are all in quarantine without any serious complications. We apologize for any inconvenience and look forward to seeing you in person at the next ETEC meeting on Friday, April 22.

Join us for our next quarterly Business Lunch Live, a joint event series to promote community connection for Oak Ridge Chamber and ETEC members. This virtual meeting will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at noon. There is no charge to participate, but registration is required. The topic for this session is the State of Real Estate led by a panel of local experts:
  • Hancen Sale, Governmental Affairs and Policy Director at Knoxville Area Association of Realtors (KAAR), will discuss real estate trends in the area
  • Brian Tapp, First Vice President at CBRE Knoxville, will discuss commercial real estate trends

X-energy’s TRISO-X Selects Oak Ridge Horizon Center for First Commercial Advanced Reactor Fuel Fabrication Facility in North America

TRISO-X LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of X-energy LLC, has selected the Horizon Center Industrial Park in Oak Ridge as the site for its commercial advanced nuclear reactor fuel fabrication facility, the nation’s first High-Assay low-enriched Uranium (HALEU) based fuel fabrication facility.

NNSA Breaks Ground on Security Project at Y-12

NNSA this week held the groundbreaking of the multiyear Security Infrastructure Revitalization Program at the Y-12 National Security Complex. The project will replace a portion of the existing perimeter intrusion detection and assessment system, known as PIDAS, and upgrade other security features.

ORNL Awards $100M in Contracts to Local Small and Minority-Owned Businesses

ORNL announced the award of four basic ordering agreements to local small businesses valued at up to $100 million. These four small businesses were selected through a rigorous, competitive procurement process. Other small businesses can also partner with these firms, which will further increase ORNL’s small business utilization.

ETEC presented Muddy Boot Awards last Friday to TN State Senator Ken Yager and Robert S. Eby, P.E. at a special edition of ETEC’s Friday morning meeting. Both of these deserving honorees have impressive resumes of service in East Tennessee and a passion for education.

IACMI Names Dale Brosius as Interim CEO

The Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation announced Dale Brosius has been appointed interim chief executive officer effective April 1, 2022. Brosius will lead IACMI as it identifies a permanent CEO to succeed Dr. John Hopkins, who is stepping down after leading the organization for more than four years.

ORNL Collaborates to Demonstrate Self-Sanitizing N95 Masks

ORNL researchers collaborated with Iowa State University and RJ Lee Group to demonstrate a safe and effective antiviral coating for N95 masks. The coating destroys the COVID-19-causing coronavirus and could enable the reuse of masks made from various fabrics.
