Y-12 National Security Complex and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory have teamed up to rapidly modernize legacy technology and production methods of crucial components for the U.S. nuclear deterrent. A leading example of this collaboration is the recent successful installation and testing of the electron beam cold hearth melter (EBCHM) – a machine that can melt and cast various metals including uranium alloys.

ORAU announced the election of two new board members, a new Council chair and vice-chair, and welcomed six new institutions to its 152-member University Consortium. The announcement was made during the ORAU Annual Meeting of the Council of Sponsoring Institutions earlier this month.

Xerox Elem Additive Solutions announced the installation of a Xerox ElemX 3D metal printer at DOE’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility at ORNL to advance metal Additive Manufacturing technologies. The ElemX leverages Liquid Metal AM that uses cost-effective aluminum wire and is easily deployed, requiring no special facility modifications for operation.

Two developers have submitted plans featuring apartments, businesses and a park area for an area near Oak Ridge's Wilson Street. The Oak Ridge Land Bank manages the land involved. At the time of this article, no decisions have been made, but Oak Ridge's Cappiello Real Estate and Knoxville's Machinations have submitted proposals.
