One of the issues causing the supply chain crisis around the U.S. is a lack of skilled manufacturers, according to a White House Document released earlier this year. Dr. Tony Schmitz studies machine tooling for the UT-Oak Ridge Innovation Institute. Under a DOD project, he works to better understand manufacturing and train skilled machinists.

EM is moving forward with full-scale deactivation of an unused, deteriorating facility at the Y-12 National Security Complex at Oak Ridge after workers successfully isolated potentially hazardous energy sources inside the building.

Researchers at DOE’s Oak Ridge, Brookhaven and Idaho national laboratories and Stony Brook University have developed a novel approach to gain fundamental insights into molten salts, a heat transfer medium important to advanced energy technologies.

For three years, Y-12 Development has been working to design, install, and operate an advanced lithium electrolytic cell (LEC) to produce lithium metal. Recently, the prototype unit was the first-ever advanced lithium cell to make lithium metal that mitigates corrosive gas, high temperature, and lithium metal fire concerns.

Verizon Public Sector has been awarded $34.6 million through two contract awards with DOE. The contracts include voice and data services and will involve a number of DOE facilities.

General Fusion is closing an oversubscribed $130 million Series E funding round filled by a new syndicate of global investors. Combined with broad financial support from the Canadian, U.K., and U.S. governments, the General Fusion Series E round supports the aggressive pursuit of several near-term initiatives and milestones in its program to commercialize Magnetized Target Fusion.
