FCC Authorizes Over $5.5M for Rural Broadband in TN
The Federal Communications Commission authorized more than $5.5 million in funding over the next decade to expand broadband to more than 2,000 unserved homes and businesses in Tennessee, part of the sixth wave of support from last year’s successful Connect American Fund Phase II auction.

ORNL Data Scientists Support Historic Arctic Expedition
In the vast frozen whiteness of the central Arctic, the Polarstern, a German research vessel, has settled into the ice for a yearlong float. Misha Krassovski, a computer scientist who works at DOE's ORNL is one of the 60 scientific personnel who embarked on the first leg of the largest polar expedition of all time, called the Multidisciplinary Drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate.

Demolition Begins on Sprawling Centrifuge Complex
The largest and most visible remaining structures at ETTP are coming down. Demolition is now underway on the Centrifuge Complex as employees work to achieve EM’s goal to finish major cleanup at the site by the end of 2020. The complex spans more than 235,000 square feet and sections of it reach heights of 180 feet.

For the 14th year in a row, the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education has met the exceptional health and safety standards set by DOE who recently presented ORISE with the Star of Excellence Award during DOE’s annual Voluntary Protection Program Participants’ Association national conference.

Roane State Hosts 5th "Dream It. Do It." Competition
Roane State hosted the launch of the 5th annual “Dream It. Do It.” competition at the community college’s mechatronics campus in Clinton and is also providing judges for the months-long events. Now in its fifth year, the unique student competition highlighting manufacturing careers is sponsored by CNS and the Anderson County Chamber of Commerce.

ORAU’s Cindy Snow Promoted to Director of Procurement
Cindy Snow has been promoted to director of procurement for Oak Ridge Associated Universities. In her new role, she will direct all ORAU procurement and small business activities and staff, including internal purchases, acquisitions and sub-contracting, and ensure excellent customer service to internal and external clients.
